County Council Highlights - July 4

Wyoming, ON – At its regular meeting Wednesday, July 4, 2018, Lambton County Council:

  • Authorized staff to enter into negotiations for a potential new lease with the owners of Bayside Centre.
  • Authorized staff to enter into a service agreement with Employment Resource Centre.
  • Authorized staff to begin negotiations for the acquisition of property located on Confederation Street in the City of Sarnia.
  • Authorized equity participation in Bio Industrial Innovation Canada's holdings in three bio-industrial enterprises.
  • Heard a presentation from representatives of the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) and Tourism Sarnia-Lambton (TSL) regarding ongoing discussions on the potential merger/amalgamation of the organizations.
  • Passed a resolution directing SLEP and TSL to continue operating as two separate organizations while exploring opportunities to work together on specific initiatives.
  • Heard a presentation from Mr. Don McCabe, Ontario Federation of Agriculture regarding the organization's Producing Prosperity Campaign.
  • Authorized Lambton Public Health to execute an agreement with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in order to receive up to $591,300 between April 2018 and March 2020 in one-time funding to support the Health & Well-Being grant for the Age-Friendly Community Development Project.
  • Accepted the County's Financial Statements and Trust Funds Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2017.
  • Approved a staff recommendation for funding the net cost of installing 14 electric vehicle charging stations at nine locations across Lambton County.
  • Authorized staff to execute the necessary agreement to receive over $2.2 million in 100% provincial funding to deliver the GreenON Social Housing Program in Lambton County.
  • Directed staff to appeal a provincial decision related to the County's new Official Plan with respect to minimum farm lot sizes.  Council tabled to its September meeting discussion on appealing the province's decision on local natural heritage inventory in order to receive a further staff report on the matter.
  • Tabled until after 2019 Budget deliberations a discussion on a motion that would call on the Ministry of Municipal Affairs to require that 21 days' notice be given if the voting system in a given municipality is to change from paper ballots to another system and that there be a statutory public meeting.
  • Requested a report from staff on how the County can use existing funds to help move the Oversized Load Corridor project forward.
  • Noted that Council will next meet in regularly scheduled Open Session Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
