By Tourism Sarnia Lambton

Carpenters’ Local 1256 and Imperial Oil Sarnia sign on as Title and Presenting Sponsors for the 2019 Sarnia Tall Ships Celebration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sarnia, ON – January 22nd, 2019, The City of Sarnia and Tourism Sarnia-Lambton announced today that Carpenters’ Local 1256 will be the Title Sponsor of the 2019 Sarnia Tall Ships Celebration and Imperial Oil Sarnia will be the Presenting Sponsor. The Tall Ships Celebration will take place this summer August 9-11, 2019.

Representatives from Carpenters’ Local 1256 and Imperial Oil were on hand to unveil the new “Carpenters’ Local 1256 Tall Ships Celebration powered by Imperial Oil” event logo.

“These two organizations have been pillars in our community”, said Rob Harwood, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Sarnia. “We couldn’t be happier to be able to work with both Carpenters’ Local 1256 and Imperial Oil on this signature event. It is partnerships such as this that will make this event a success.”

Carpenters’ Local 1256 has proudly been building Sarnia for over 75 years and with 900 members, they have supported countless events with a strong focus on the importance of community, both within their membership and in public.

“On behalf of Carpenters’ Local 1256 Membership, Executive and Staff we are proud to support the Sarnia Tall Ships Celebration as the Title Sponsor of the event, said, for Carpenters’ Local 1256, “We look forward to welcoming guests from around the world to Sarnia-Lambton for this Tall Ship Celebration historic event for our community and we are honoured to be part of it.”

Imperial's 120 year old Sarnia operation is the most integrated fuels, chemicals manufacturing and petroleum research facility in Canada. The Sarnia Site has over 800 employees who are actively involved in the local community.

Imperial Chemical Plant Manager James Ritchie says this is a unique opportunity for the site. “We recently collaborated with Tourism Sarnia-Lambton and determined that the ‘presenting sponsor’ opportunity was the right fit for us. The Tall Ships Challenge is a perfect way to showcase Sarnia’s waterfront, and Imperial is looking forward to flying the company flag on one of these majestic tall ships.”

Carpenters’ Local 1256 TALL SHIPS® Celebration powered by Imperial Oil, is part of the Great Lakes Series, and will take place August 9-11, 2019. Private functions will take place on August 9th, followed by public viewing on August 10th - 11th. Bluenose II will lead the fleet of tall ships sailing into Sarnia. Joining the Bluenose II will be the Picton Castle, Empire Sandy, Fair Jeanne and Appledore IV. Additional ships will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The Committee has been hard at work over the last few months, securing the ships, creating a partnership with Artzscape by the Bay and Bluewater Borderfest, recruiting volunteers, applying for grants and securing sponsorship,” said Vicky Praill Special Events and Sports Marketing Co-ordinator for Tourism Sarnia-Lambton “We are so pleased with the progress; we have sold over 2000 tickets in the last few weeks and we are right on track to host a historic event that will not only showcase our community but that will bring community pride for years to come.”
