The City of Sarnia and its administration undertake that the recruitment and selection of employees shall be undertaken in a fair, objective and impartial manner. All individuals interested in employment with the City of Sarnia may make application for available vacancies subject to the following principles:

  1. That applicants for positions with the City of Sarnia, in order to merit consideration, meet the required qualifications and skills for the applied for.
  2. That all recruitments are fair and open competitions while ensuring all collective agreement and legislative requirements are also met.
  3. That the successful candidate shall not be directly supervised by a family member, nor shall they be indirectly supervised by a family member who is a department head, deputy department head, or the Chief Administrative Officer.
  4. That no preferential treatment will be given in the recruitment and/or selection of a candidate as a consequence of a familial/personal relationship with a member of City Council or an existing employee.
  5. That the Chief Administrative Officer shall not be related as defined below, to a member of City Council.
  6. City Council shall have the right to make exceptions to this policy when it is in the best interest of the Corporation to do so.
