In 1998, Sarnia City Council and senior City staff, along with a consulting facilitator, commenced an intense strategic planning process to establish a mission statement, a set of organizational values, goals and objectives which would lay the foundation for a City of Sarnia Corporate Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan has become the blueprint referred to by senior staff, administration and council in establishing short-term, long-term and on-going goals respecting their specific department functions. One of the on-going goals within the Strategic Plan is regular review and updating of the Plan itself.

The current Strategic Plan will guide the Community and Council in building the "New Sarnia" that will be economically and environmentally sustainable. The Three Strategic Priorities of the plan will position the City of Sarnia for tomorrow while building on the contributions of past Councils.
